‘God bless that precious dog!’
Dogs have certainly earned their title as “Man’s Best Friend.” They are unceasingly loyal, perpetually positive, and boundlessly loving.
We love them for their companionship and compassion, but their intelligence and amazing “sixth sense” also make them great assistants in many fields, whether that be as fire dogs, crime scene sleuths, or acting as someone else’s eyes or ears.
But while I’ve heard of dogs doing all sorts of heroic and amazing feats, I’ve never seen a dog do this!
Poncho, one of the valued K-9 members of the Policía de Madrid, showed off his incredible “trick” recently, and I don’t think I would have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes!
In a now-viral video, a police officer can be seen collapsing to the ground. Seconds later, Poncho is on the scene performing…wait for it…CPR on his human partner!
Poncho’s amazing performance seems almost unbelievable, and that’s because it kind of is…
While it would be incredible if dogs could actually be trained to perform CPR, police spokesman Fernando Rodriguez emphasized that “no dog could ever perform CPR on a human being. They don’t have the strength to do so nor could they ever know how to check for a pulse.”
In reality, Poncho’s heroic rescue technique is a trick he learned for school visits and other police demonstrations.
That’s not to say, though, that Poncho isn’t a hero. He is trained as an explosive-sniffing dog and can actually go into potentially dangerous situations on his own to make sure everything is okay.
Poncho may not actually be able to perform CPR, but that hasn’t stopped millions of people all over the world from falling in love with his heroism and brilliance.
“Oh my goodness! Love the way the dog jumped up and down a couple of times, then lays his head at the mouth of the policeman and then starts back up again,” one smitten commenter wrote. “God bless that precious dog.”
Poncho’s fellow officers are obviously very proud of their K-9 partner. In a tweet sharing the viral video they quoted humorist Josh Billings, and his words perfectly sum up the special relationship between humans and dogs:
“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”
And we certainly love them too!
Were you amazed by Poncho’s special skill? Then share it!
